Alarm System — Concord 4

A hardwired Interlogix (GE / UTC Fire & Security) Concord 4 security panel, installed during the 2017 build by Global Security. It does not appear anywhere else in this manual — it was found in the owner’s own construction photographs, not confirmed at a walkthrough. Its single biggest open question also matters for the sale: whether this system was ever actually monitored.

At a glance

A hardwired Interlogix (GE / UTC Fire & Security) Concord 4 alarm control panel — an 8-zone board with a keypad bus and a phone-line dialer connection — installed as part of the original 2017 build. This page exists because the system turned up, fully documented down to the wiring diagram, in the owner’s 2017 construction photo archive. No one has opened the panel or confirmed its operation since.

Must know
The single most important fact about this system is what is not known. On install day, 2017-05-16, the panel’s cellular/IP communicator (an Alarm.com module) was still factory-sealed in its bag, unwired, sitting loose in the bottom of the can. Whether that module was ever installed afterward — and therefore whether this alarm has ever been actively monitored, whether it is monitored today, and whether any monitoring contract exists to convey or cancel — is genuinely unknown. Treat this system as unverified until it is professionally assessed; do not rely on it for security until then. Separately, its backup battery is nine years past its 2017 installation date and is certainly dead — a cheap, easy fix regardless of the monitoring question (see Maintenance).

2Everyday use

Status unknown — do not rely on this system until it has been assessed. Everything below describes how a Concord 4 normally works; it is not a confirmation that this particular installation is currently armed, monitored, or even fully functional.

A Concord 4 is a conventional hardwired panel: a keypad takes a numeric code to arm or disarm the system, each door/window/motion sensor is wired to one of the panel’s zones, and an alarm event is supposed to be reported off-site by a communicator. Day-to-day, that’s the whole interaction model — nothing about it requires an app or a subscription to arm and disarm locally.

Why this page can’t tell you whether the house is actually protected

The panel’s only proven communication path in 2017 was a telephone line (the board wires to a phone jack for exactly this purpose). A cellular/IP add-on module was delivered to the site but was still sealed in its bag, unconnected, when the can was closed up. If that module was never installed, and if the house no longer has an active landline, this panel may have no way to report an alarm to anyone even if every sensor and the keypad still work perfectly. This is not a hypothetical raised for completeness — it is the literal, photographed state of the equipment on the day it was installed, and nothing in the record since then confirms it changed.
  • No keypad has been identified in any photo — how many exist, and in which rooms, is unknown.
  • The panel’s programming (which zone is which, whether it’s even armed away from home) has never been read out.
  • There is no record of the label’s own required 3-year technician check ever happening (see Maintenance).

What this page is, and isn’t

This page is built entirely from a close reading of 2017 construction photographs — the panel door sticker, the open can, and the full wiring diagram taped inside it. It is a complete, accurate technical record of what was installed. It is not a confirmation of what is working today, nine years and one closing later. Until a technician opens this panel, treat every operational claim on this page as historical, not current.

3App & account

The Concord 4 board itself has no app or cloud account of its own — it is a 2000s-era hardwired panel that predates that model entirely. Any app-based control or monitoring on this system, if it exists, would come from the Alarm.com module found sealed and unconnected in the 2017 photo.

  • If that module was later installed and activated, the relevant app is Alarm.com (or a monitoring company’s own branded app built on the Alarm.com platform) — but whether any such account exists for this house is unconfirmed.
  • If the module was never installed, there is no app, and the only interface to this system is a physical keypad — location(s) still unknown.
  • Before relying on this system after closing: find out from the seller whether an Alarm.com account, a monitoring contract, or a landline-based dialer connection is currently active, and if so, get the account transferred or canceled the same way the Schlage/Eufy/Rachio accounts are handled — see Smart-home account transfer.

This is a conveyance question, not just a technical one

If monitoring is active under the seller’s name, it does not automatically transfer, and the buyer needs to know whether to assume the existing contract, start a new one, or replace the system outright. If no monitoring is active, the buyer should know that too, rather than assuming a locked steel panel means the house is alarmed.

4Maintenance

The backup battery is certainly dead — replace it regardless of anything else on this page

The panel’s spec calls for a 12V, 4.5–5.0 Ah sealed lead-acid battery (Interlogix part 60-681; equivalent to a Portalac PE12V4.5 or a generic UB1250), and the installed battery is an ELK-brand 12V 5Ah SLA, dated to the 2017 install. Sealed lead-acid batteries have a design life of roughly 3–5 years; at roughly nine years old, this one is certainly beyond end of life. This is a cheap, easy, unambiguous fix — a generic 12V 4.5–5Ah SLA battery of the right physical size costs well under $20 and swaps in with no tools beyond the can’s own key. It is worth doing on general principle even before the monitoring question above is resolved: a dead backup battery means the panel loses power entirely in an outage, and (per the panel’s own SIA-compliance note) will shut itself down if AC power is lost and battery voltage falls below 10.2V.
  • The panel self-tests the battery automatically (every 24 hours, or every 4 hours if UL 98 options are set on) — a low-battery trouble condition should already be signaling on any connected keypad if one can be found.
  • The panel’s own door label states it is UL/SIA CP-01 listed and carries a printed note that the system “is intended to be checked by a qualified technician at least every three years.” There is no record of that check ever having happened, on a system that is now roughly nine years old.
  • Zone wiring uses 2kΩ end-of-line resistors at the last device on each loop (both the numbered zones and the Zone 8 smoke branch) — the number a technician will want if a zone needs troubleshooting or a sensor needs replacing.
  • If a landline is what feeds this panel’s telco connection, confirm the line is still active before assuming the dialer path works — a disconnected landline silently defeats a phone-based alarm panel with no visible symptom.

Because Interlogix shut down as a company in 2020, there is no manufacturer support line to call. Parts (batteries, EOL resistors, compatible keypads) remain available through alarm-supply distributors, and any licensed alarm technician familiar with older hardwired panels can service this board — it does not require an Interlogix-specific specialist.

5Troubleshooting

A working panel is not proof of monitoring, and a dead panel is not proof there’s no protection at all

Because the Concord 4’s local functions (siren, keypad, zone sensing) run independently of whether the Alarm.com module was ever wired up, a fully responsive keypad does not by itself prove the house is monitored, and conversely, no visible symptom would tell you if monitoring silently lapsed. The only way to know for certain is to have a technician read the panel’s actual programming and confirm (or install) a working communication path.

The engineering layer — for a buyer's technician, or a curious owner.

For the buyer (or technician) who wants the wiring-level picture — this whole page is sourced from one exceptionally complete photograph: the wiring diagram taped inside the panel’s own door, shot in May 2017 before the can was ever closed for good.

The source document is a factory wiring-diagram sheet (“422-3781 Rev. E”) taped inside the Concord 4’s enclosure door, photographed during the 2017 construction walk-through and never revisited since. It transcribes cleanly: full terminal legend, every accessory’s part number, the complete UL/SIA CP-01 compliance block, and a warning label about the panel’s alarm-verification delay feature. Nothing about this page’s hardware facts is a guess — they are read directly off that sheet. What the sheet cannot tell you is anything about the nine years since: whether the described hardware still exists in this configuration, whether it was ever reprogrammed, or whether the communicator question below was ever resolved.

Why the Alarm.com question matters more than anything else on this page: a Concord 4’s built-in communication path is a phone-line dialer through the RJ31X jack — nothing more, unless a separate module is added. The photographed Alarm.com module is exactly that add-on: a cellular/IP bridge that lets the panel report alarms without a working landline, and lets a monitoring company (or the homeowner, via the Alarm.com app) see status remotely. Finding it still factory-bagged, pigtail zip-tied, unconnected, at the bottom of the can on install day means that at that exact moment, this panel’s only path to the outside world was a phone line. Nothing in the record since 2017 confirms the module was ever installed, activated, or paired to a monitoring account — and nothing confirms it wasn’t. That is a real, unresolved gap, not a rhetorical one.

What normal operation would look like, if it turns out to be live: a SuperBus 2000 keypad (one of the models listed in Specs) takes a numeric code to arm/disarm; the board reports over the RJ31X telco connection and/or, if installed, the Alarm.com module; the exterior siren (an 8-ohm, 15-watt Piezo Dynamic unit per the diagram) sounds locally on an alarm event; and the panel self-tests its own battery automatically. None of that requires an app for basic function — the Alarm.com layer, if present, is additive (remote arm/disarm, push notifications, monitoring-company dispatch), not required for the panel to work as a local, siren-only system.

What to gather to close this page out: open the can and read the board’s serial number and current firmware/programming; confirm the room the can is actually in; find every keypad in the house and record its location and code; determine whether the Alarm.com module is now physically installed; confirm whether an active landline or an active Alarm.com/monitoring account exists, and under whose name; and, if Global Security is still operating (their listed number/site should be the first call), ask whether they hold any service or monitoring record for this address.
