Three connected devices guard the house’s entries: a Schlage Encode WiFi deadbolt, a Eufy Security 2K dual-cam video doorbell, and a Linear/GoControl garage door controller. Each has its own app and its own account — day one means resetting all three.

At a glance

A Schlage Encode WiFi deadbolt (keypad code, app, or a physical key), a Eufy Security 2K dual-cam video doorbell that’s wired into the house’s original doorbell circuit and backed by a eufy HomeBase, and a Linear/GoControl Z-Wave garage door controller that adds remote open/close and status reporting to the existing garage door opener. Must know
All three devices still remember the seller — their codes, their accounts, their WiFi. None of that transfers automatically. Before move-in, every code gets deleted and every account gets reset — see the checklist in App & account. The garage controller is Z-Wave, not WiFi on its own; it needs a hub, and which hub runs it in this house is a walkthrough item that changes exactly how its handover works.

2Everyday use

None of these devices require an app for daily use — the keypad takes a code, the doorbell rings your phone, and the garage door opens the way it always did, plus a status you can check remotely.

Schlage Encode deadbolt

  1. Touch the dark panel to wake the keypad, enter your code, then press the button with the lock icon. You do not need a code just to lock the door — a one-touch lock button works with the door closed.
  2. From the Schlage Home app (with a connection), tap Lock/Unlock on the lock’s tile from anywhere.
  3. A standard key cylinder sits below the keypad as a backup — for a dead battery, a WiFi outage, or simply not having your phone.

The keypad numbers aren’t in phone order — on purpose

Schlage prints the digits in a non-standard layout (visible in the photo above) rather than the usual 1-2-3 telephone grid. It’s a deliberate anti-shoulder-surfing design, not a defect — someone watching your hand can’t map finger position to a real phone-keypad code.

Eufy video doorbell

  1. A visitor triggers a phone notification through the Eufy Security app. Tap it for live video — from both the main 2K camera and the lower angle that frames packages on the step — and two-way talk.
  2. The doorbell is wired into the house’s original doorbell circuit, so pressing it also rings the original wall chimes — exactly like it always did — in addition to the phone notification and a chime built into the HomeBase.
  3. Recordings save locally and encrypted to the HomeBase at no monthly cost; open the app’s Events tab to play them back.

Garage door

  1. Open or close it remotely from whichever smart-home app is paired to the house’s Z-Wave hub (which hub — to confirm) — the same app shows whether the door is currently open or closed, reported by a wireless sensor on the door.
  2. The original wall pushbutton and any existing remotes keep working exactly as before — the controller listens in on the opener’s circuit, it doesn’t replace it.

What this page does and doesn’t cover

The Eufy doorbell is the only camera identified in this house. If the walkthrough turns up any other camera, sensor, or alarm-panel hardware, it belongs on this page — until then, none is claimed.

3App & account

Three separate apps, three separate accounts — none of them talk to each other, and none of them came with the house pre-linked to you.

  • Schlage Home (iOS/Android) — manages up to 100 access codes per lock, schedules, and virtual keys shared with guests.
  • Eufy Security (iOS/Android) — manages the doorbell and its HomeBase: live view, event history, and notification settings. The physical chiming (original wall chimes + the HomeBase’s own chime) rings on its own wiring/hardware and isn’t something the app turns on or off.
  • A Z-Wave hub app (name to confirm) — the Linear/GoControl garage controller has no app of its own. It speaks Z-Wave to a hub (common examples: SmartThings, Hubitat, a security panel) and that hub is what puts “open/close/status” in a phone app. Identifying the hub is a walkthrough priority — it determines the entire handover procedure below.

HomeKit — removed before handover

One lock, zero dependencies on day one

The front-door Schlage Encode is currently set up in Apple HomeKit. Before handover, it will be removed from HomeKit and returned to plain standalone operation — keypad plus the Schlage Home app only — so the new owners get a lock that just works, with no hub and no HomeKit account required. The owner’s view: nothing about this house is more critical than being able to walk up and get in the door, so that transition is being kept maximally simple and clean. If you’re an Apple household with a hub, re-adding it to your own HomeKit afterward is a five-minute optional step, not a requirement. Day one: re-key your smart home

Do this before you rely on any of these devices

A previous owner’s codes, accounts, and paired phones do not expire on their own. Treat every device on this page as “still trusts the seller” until you’ve worked through this list.
  1. Schlage deadbolt — factory reset it. Remove the battery cover, hold the reset button (black circle, right of the interior thumbturn) until the LED flashes red, then keep holding until it turns solid blue. This erases every code and virtual key. Set a fresh code and connect it to a new Schlage Home account you control.
  2. Re-key the physical cylinder too. A factory reset clears the electronics, not the mechanical key. If you don’t know how many physical keys exist or who holds one, have a locksmith re-key the cylinder (or run Schlage’s own SecureKey re-key kit) — inexpensive insurance a code reset alone doesn’t give you.
  3. Eufy doorbell — remove it from the seller’s account, then factory-reset it. The seller (or you, if you have access) opens Eufy Security → Device Settings → Remove Device. If that account isn’t available, press and hold the doorbell’s recessed reset button until the LED changes. Either way, treat it as untrusted until it’s been re-added fresh to a HomeBase under an account only you control.
  4. Garage controller — exclude it from the seller’s hub, then include it on yours. Z-Wave devices are “included” (paired) to exactly one hub controller at a time. The seller’s hub needs to formally exclude/remove the device (or, failing that, a factory reset of the controller module itself); then your own hub includes it fresh. The exact steps depend entirely on which hub is in use — a walkthrough item.
  5. Reconnect all three to your own WiFi once the house WiFi password has been changed (see the Network page) — the Schlage lock and the Eufy HomeBase both need the new password re-entered.

4Maintenance

Schlage deadbolt

  • Batteries: four AA alkaline cells, replaced from the interior side. Schlage estimates roughly six months of typical use per set.
  • Low-battery warning: a flashing red battery icon on the keypad, plus an alert in the Schlage Home app — replace promptly rather than waiting for a dead lockout.
  • Battery type matters: Schlage specifically advises against lithium cells and rechargeable NiMH batteries — NiMH’s lower voltage (1.2V vs. 1.5V) reads as partially drained from the day you install it.

Eufy video doorbell

  • Power: wired continuously from the house’s existing doorbell wiring — there’s no battery to charge or replace day-to-day, and no “low battery” routine to keep on top of.
  • Lens care: wipe the two lenses free of dust, spiderwebs, and water spots occasionally — the wide 160° lens is the first thing to show a smudge in video.

Garage controller

  • Essentially maintenance-free — it’s a small transceiver module, not a motor or moving part.
  • Wireless door sensor: the tilt sensor mounted on the door itself runs on a coin-cell battery (CR2032 on this product family) — if the app starts reporting stale or missing open/closed status, that battery is the first thing to check.
  • Worth a periodic check regardless of this controller: the garage door opener’s own safety-reverse photo-eye sensors (near the floor on each side of the door) should be clear of dust and cobwebs — that’s an opener-level safety feature, not something this controller manages.

5Troubleshooting

Don’t factory-reset any of these in a panic

A factory reset clears every code, pairing, or hub inclusion the device holds. It’s the right move for an ownership handover (above) — it’s the wrong first move for a device that’s just being slow or offline. Try the checks in this table first.

The engineering layer — for a buyer's technician, or a curious owner.

For the buyer who wants to know how these three actually talk to the network — and to each other (short answer: they mostly don’t).

Three devices, two very different protocols

The Schlage lock and the Eufy doorbell are both WiFi-native: each one is its own client on the house network (see the Network page), reaching its manufacturer’s cloud directly for remote/app functionality. Core local function doesn’t depend on that cloud connection — the Schlage keypad locks and unlocks on its own logic even with no WiFi at all, and the Eufy doorbell still detects motion and can chime/notify over its local link to the HomeBase.

Local vs. cloud dependence

  • Eufy is the most self-sufficient of the three: video is processed and stored locally on the HomeBase (encrypted, no monthly fee) rather than relying on a cloud DVR. The app still needs the internet to notify your phone remotely, but the recordings themselves don’t leave the house unless you choose to share them.
  • Schlage keeps all locking logic on the lock itself — the code table lives in the lock’s own memory. WiFi/cloud is purely for remote app control and for syncing new codes without standing at the door.
  • The garage controller’s local behavior is entirely a function of its hub: some hubs run automations locally even if internet/cloud is down, others require the cloud for every command. Which applies here depends on which hub is in use — another reason identifying it is worth doing early.

This controller family is documented as compatible with the large majority of sectional garage door openers made after 1993, with one notable exception worth checking: openers using a manufacturer’s proprietary rolling-code wall-button interface (e.g., Chamberlain/LiftMaster Security+2.0-style systems) aren’t supported the same way a simple mechanical pushbutton interface is. Since this controller is already installed and reported working, the opener is presumably compatible — confirming the opener’s own make/model at walkthrough closes the loop and unlocks its own manual too.

The second, smaller lens near the edge of the housing is what makes this a “dual-cam” doorbell rather than a standard single-lens one: the main lens covers the usual wide, tall field of view for greeting visitors, while the second lens angles down to keep the doorstep — and anything left on it — in frame without the awkward fisheye distortion a single ultra-wide lens would need to cover both jobs.

What to gather to finish this page

  • Which door(s) actually have the Schlage deadbolt, and the exact model/trim/SKU (photograph the interior label).
  • The Eufy HomeBase’s exact generation (its location is known — see Specs).
